Poetry reading at Darvill’s Bookstore

Orcas community members will read from poet Stephen Guy’s book “Heartspeak,” at Darvill’s on Thursday, March 4 at 7 p.m.

“When your heart speaks, take good notes,” were the words from a friend, Mary Ellen Gaylord, on a journal she gave Guy when his Orcas Island farm was dedicated at a blessing ceremony in 1997.

This “keepsake” book of poems, aptly called “Heartspeak” was compiled from notes he kept in that journal of Eastlight Farm.

Makala Forster, Gwyneth Burril, Che Blaine, Phillip Miller, and Amy Cole, all friends of Guy, will be reading from the collection. Light refreshments will be served. Guy is gifting all the proceeds received from the sale of Heartspeak to the Orcas Island Education Foundation. Michelle Reed of OIEF will mc the evening, and read one of her own poems.
