    The annual Bite of Orcas fundraiser on Saturday, May 24 helps take a bite out of the Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center budget. “’The Bite’ is our only major fundraising event on Orcas Island,” says Julie Knight, executive director of the Wolf Hollow Board. “Not only do we raise money, but we get the message out about protecting habitat and native species on Orcas Island.”

    Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Friday Harbor has been serving the wild animal rehabilitation needs of all of the San Juan Islands and seven northwest Washington counties for 25 years. Its major function is to care for animals hurt or impacted from human-related causes. “We’ve treated more than 12,000 animals and 220 native species since we were founded,” said Julie Knight, executive director of the Wolf Hollow Board.

    Lopez Island School District officials have announced the list of colleges and universities to which the class of 2008 graduates has been accepted. The Seniors graduate on June 7 in a traditional Saturday afternoon ceremony. This year’s graduates have been accepted to an alphabet soup of colleges around the country.
