Up in the air, Junior Birdmen! On Saturday, June 14, Orcas aviators will again celebrate Young Eagle’s Day with free airplane rides for young people, aged eight to 17. Experienced local pilots provide the free flights. A parent or guardian must sign a permission slip, which will be provided at the event.
The Orcas Island Historical Society celebrated its 2008 opening on Friday, May 23. Members and general public enjoyed refreshments served in the Barfoot-Hodde entrance way while tapping their toes to the zither, fiddle and accordian tunes of Katie Jensen, Walter Daub and Trudi Erwin.
Orcas Center hosts an evening of original monologues on the theme “Pets: Why we Live With ‘em, Why we Don’t” on Friday, June 13. Joining in the fun will be a group of international improv actors to illustrate the monologues.
Chefs, would-be chefs, chefs who would be king, or anyone else that would like to be a barbecue legend for a day are invited to the first-ever Bullfrog Competition Barbeque.
A youth golf clinic will be taught by high school golf coach, Bobby Olmstead, on Mondays and Wednesdays from June 23 – July 16 at the Orcas Golf Course.
