    Wolf Hollow Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Friday Harbor has been serving the wild animal rehabilitation needs of all of the San Juan Islands and seven northwest Washington counties for 25 years. Its major function is to care for animals hurt or impacted from human-related causes. “We’ve treated more than 12,000 animals and 220 native species since we were founded,” said Julie Knight, executive director of the Wolf Hollow Board.

    In preparation for the busy Memorial Day weekend, WSDOT Ferries Division is rolling out the second phase of its new pilot reservations program for the Port Townsend/Keystone route. On Monday, May 19, customers will be able to use advance reservations to receive priority boarding on the ferry. They will also be able to make both advance and same-day reservations by phone and at the Port Townsend and Keystone terminals starting Monday.

    Salmon Recovery day in Deer Harbor

    On May 17, the County’s Lead Entity for Salmon Recovery presented a day highlighting the protection and recovery efforts of the habitats critical to salmon survival. The Lead Entity produced the event, which included a Kids’ Camp, displays by the San Juan Nature Institute, People for Puget Sound and Friends of the San Juans among others, and luncheon and field trips, was funded by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and federal and state salmon recovery money. Walking and boat tours of the estuary rounded out the day. About 45 people attended the event were some of the groups that displayed at the event in the Deer Harbor Community Clubhouse.
