Orcas Schools graduation schedules

Some 150 islanders graduate from local schools in ceremonies planned this weekend and next week. The graduates are profiled in a 28-page special section in today’s Sounder. The following are the correct dates, as the cover of the graduation special listed two dates incorrectly.

The first graduation ceremonies are Saturday, June 6. Spring Street International School salutes its 15 graduates at 1 p.m. in the San Juan Community Theatre. Laura Kriete-Bain, who is headed to New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, and Peter Duggins, headed to Carleton College, are co-valedictorians. Each graduate in this class has been accepted to a college or university.

Lopez High School salutes its 21 graduates the same day at 2 p.m. in the high school gym. Jordan Haber, bound for Colorado College, is valedictorian.

OASIS High School honors its eight graduates on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church parish hall in Eastsound. Four students earned diplomas; four passed GED exams.

On Wednesday, June 10, Orcas Christian School salutes its 10 graduates at 6 p.m. in the school gymnasium. The school does not name valedictorians or salutatorians.

On Thursday, June 11, Skagit Valley College presents associate’s degrees to eight students, an early childhood education certificate to one, and an adult high school diploma to another. The ceremony is at 2:30 p.m. at San Juan Center.

On Saturday, June 13, Friday Harbor High School salutes 53 graduates at 6 p.m. in Turnbull Gym. Albert Strasser, who is headed to the University of Colorado at Boulder, is valedictorian. Pablo Lopez, who is headed to Stanford University, is salutatorian.

Also on June 13, Griffin Bay High School salutes its six graduates in a ceremony that begins at 1 p.m. in the Friday Harbor Middle School Commons.

On June 13, Orcas High School honors its 27 graduates. The ceremony is at 2 p.m. in the school gym. Eliana Rose Blaine, who is headed to Wellesley College, is valedictorian. Lily Xiaowen Sky, bound for New York University, is salutatorian.
