Orcas Rec offers food preserving, day camp, pottery class and field games

Day Camp

Boys and girls ages 3-6 will love getting together at the annual Orcas Recreation Program day camp, said Didier Gincig, Orcas Rec. Coordinator. The camp will be from 9:30 to 12:30 p.m. from Aug. 18 to 22.

“Games, stories, puzzles, music, art projects, dress-up theater play, building, and playing with new friends are sure to be enjoyed by your little ones,” he said.

The day camp will be held at Salmonberry School, next door to the Senior Center in Eastsound. “Salmonberry School is an excellent location for this very fun camp! Parents are welcome to stick around and have fun with us,” says Gincig.

Snacks will be provided and day-campers are asked to bring a lunch. Children may be registered for the week or by the day. Drop-ins okay. Pre-registration is appreciated. $60/session or $15/day. Call 376-5339.

Capture the Flag

A giant game of Capture the Flag will take place at Buck Park on Aug. 19 from 10 to noon. Kids aged 7 to 18 can participate, and also play games such as Egg Toss, Egg-on-a-Spoon Race, Three-legged Race, and other fun outdoor relay races and games. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch and drinks. The cost is $5, call 376-5339 to register.

Pottery at the Right Place

Children ages 6-15 will create pottery on the wheel or by hand with help from experienced potters at The Right Place Pottery, on Wednesday, Aug. 20 from 11 to 1 p.m.

Participants will also play at the beach and at the playground with supervision. Children may come back to paint their creations at their leisure without extra cost. The cost is $20, call 376-5339 to register.
