Orcas press publishes popular memoir on sailing | ‘Tranquility’ nominated for PNBA award

"Tranquility: A Memoir of an American Sailor" by Billy Sparrow is a tale of youthful adventure in the waters of the Pacific Northwest.

“Tranquility: A Memoir of an American Sailor” by Billy Sparrow is a tale of youthful adventure in the waters of the Pacific Northwest.

The book was written in San Juan County and published on Orcas Island through Inland Waters Press. Grind Stone Ink collaborated on the limited edition bookmark that comes with the book; Matt Khachadoorian and Megan Stocklin are editorial staff; and pen and ink artist Hailey Elliot from San Juan Island contributed drawings.

“Tranquility” is for sale at Griffin Bay Books in Friday Harbor and Darvill’s Bookstore, where Khachadoorian says it is “literally flying off the shelves.” There will be an author reading at Darvill’s Thursday, Sept. 22 at 6 p.m.

The book is in the curriculum of Friday Harbor High School AP courses as well as 20 Washington public school districts. “Tranquility” has been nominated for a 2017 Pacific Northwest Bookseller’s Association award and is a Staff Pick at Powell’s City of Books in Oregon and University Bookstore in Washington.
