Orcas man suffers stroke

An account has been set up at Islanders Bank for an Orcas man who suffered a stroke while golfing at Orcas Island Golf Course earlier this month.

Roger Weinel was stricken while golfing July 5. His right side is completely paralyzed. He will never walk or talk again, and the stroke left him with severe tongue damage that leaves him with a feeding tube. He can say a few small words and he recognizes his wife Bev, sister Emma, and his mother in law. He is currently at a rehab center in Olympia.

Roger will require care and maintenance for the rest of his life that insurance won’t cover. Beverly is packing up her things and moving to Olympia so she can be near her husband.
