Orcas hit with second wildfire in less than a week

A second wildfire in less than a week was apparently caused by a burn pile near 650 Deer Point Road late Monday afternoon according to Orcas Island Fire and Rescue dispatch records.

Aaron Patten noticed that a fire was burning on Deer Point hillside as he was driving his boat home from work and called 911 at 4:06 p.m. He worked with Seth Ybarra, the first volunteer to respond to the scene, to put out the 100 by 150 foot fire until fire department volunteers and the Brush 21 vehicle arrived.

The extent of the damage and other details of the fire are unknown at this time.
