Orcas Christian hires new teacher

Orcas Christian school has announced a new staff hire for the 2021/22 school year.

“We already have a waiting list for most of our classrooms for next school year and our decision was that if we could identify and retain exceptional talent, we would add staff to help open up a few spaces,” said Principal/CEO Terry Pottle.

Pottle was able to travel to Sitka, Alaska to observe Kallie McCutcheon in her classroom and conduct a zoom interview that evening with the OCS school board, who took the unusual step of recommending her within a few seconds of the conclusion of that interview.

“During my 13 years of teaching, I have loved hands-on, outdoor, thematic instruction. My students have experienced everything from a dead sea lion on the beach to growing hydroponics in the classroom,” said McCutcheon. “Learning is fun, and that’s my goal every day.”

OCS registration opens for non-current students and siblings on March 31.
