From April 10 to 23, Orcas Fire and Rescue responded 39 times to public calls. These included a road hazard, an electrical fire, two alarm activations, three outdoor burn investigations and two illegal burn issues.

On the medical side they were called to two public assists, 16 medical emergencies and four trauma and patient assists, all of which resulted in basic life support transports including one off island transport by San Juan Air Ambulance and four via AirLift North West.

Other responses included a missing person report, transporting a generator to a patient and making four checks for carbon monoxide during the power outage on Thursday April 23.

All outdoor debris burning in San Juan County requires a permit. A residential permit covers one 10-foot by 10-foot maximum burn pile. Larger or multiple burn piles, require the purchase of a commercial permit. Residential burning permits are available at the Eastsound Fire Station from Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and cost $10.
