OICF workshop on charitable giving and decreasing income tax

The Orcas Island Community Foundation is presenting a workshop entitled “Increase Charitable Giving and Decrease Income and Estate Taxes” at the Eastsound Fire Hall on Tuesday, Aug. 4 from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

Participants will learn how to create an income that they cannot outlive, increase charitable capacity for Orcas Island, reduce estate taxes, protect assets from “The Four Threats,” bypass capital gains taxes when selling investments, and use charitable strategies to increase giving and create substantial income tax deductions.

The workshop will be led by Joseph Cohen, a founding principal of HoyleCohen Wealth Management in San Diego. He is a recognized and published expert on the process of helping individuals assess how to allocate wealth for themselves, their families and their communities. He has been involved for more than five years in the development of the Endowment Leadership Institute. Cohen serves on the Board of Trustees for the Jewish Community Foundation, the Orcas Island Community Foundation, and the Ruben H. Fleet Science Center.

The presentation is offered as part of the Orcas Island Community Foundation’s Endow Orcas initiative. Endow Orcas is an ongoing cooperative effort between the Orcas Island Community Foundation and local non-profits to improve systems and skills related to planned giving and endowment building to benefit the Orcas Island Community.
