Leadership San Juan Islands, a local leadership training course, will offer hold open houses on Orcas, Lopez and San Juan Islands in October. Former LSJI graduates will be available to answer questions and share their experiences.”
Living in the San Juan Islands offers many unique ways for residents to become involved in local life – with local government, schools and other local educational affairs, non-profit efforts, health and social services organizations or committees, and environmental groups,” organizers say.
The course helps introduce islanders to many of the interconnecting “systems” that make up daily life throughout the county. Through a series of Retreats and Challenge Days – which involve skill building – participants will have opportunities to meet with current leaders and professionals, discuss and interact over local issues and to learn and practice valuable facilitation and leadership skills. 2012 marks the program’s eighth year.
