Native plants weekend Feb. 26-27 with WSU master gardeners

The WSU Extension will host its master gardener native plant sale from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, Feb. 26 on San Juan, Orcas and Lopez islands. On Sunday, Feb. 27, volunteers are welcome to help the Land Bank plant native species from the sale at Beaverton Marsh Preserve and to learn about the Land Bank’s ongoing wetland restoration efforts at the marsh.

The WSU Extension will host its master gardener native plant sale from 9 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, Feb. 26 on San Juan, Orcas and Lopez islands. Locations include the San Juan County Fair Grounds in Friday Harbor, the Orcas Grange, and Sunset Builders on Lopez Island. Those who did not pre-order plants can still come and purchase plants the day of the sale. In addition to the plants listed on the order form, there will be Shore Pine, Deer Fern, and Sword Fern for sale. Organizers advise coming early for the best selection. On Sunday, Feb. 27, volunteers are welcome to help the Land Bank plant native species from the sale at Beaverton Marsh Preserve and to learn about the Land Bank’s ongoing wetland restoration efforts at the marsh. The event will be from 12-4 p.m., beginning with an interpretive talk. Food and hot beverages will be provided. Parking is available at the corral 1/3 mile north of Sutton Road on Roche Harbor Road.

The planting event will be repeated on Saturday, March 5, at the same time and place.
