The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.

July 13

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 46 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone and issued them a citation for speeding.

• A deputy on San Juan took a delayed walk-in report of an assault that occurred the day before. A suspect was identified but was unable to be located, and a probable cause statement was completed and sent to the prosecutor’s office for review.

• Deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident in Friday Harbor involving a minor who was damaging property and assaulting the parent. The minor was arrested and released after a detention-risk assessment was completed. A probable cause statement was sent to the prosecutor’s office.

July 14

• San Juan deputies responded to a domestic incident. One person was arrested and booked into jail for assault in the fourth degree – domestic violence.

•A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a lost black, bi-fold wallet, containing approximately $150. The wallet was entered into lost property.

• A deputy responded to a welfare check in Friday Harbor. The deputy spoke with the parties involved and found the person was okay and denied needing law enforcement or medical assistance.

• Orcas deputies responded to an assault call. An investigation was conducted, and it was determined to be a domestic violence incident. One party was arrested and booked into jail.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a citizen assist. Information was documented about an altercation and possible threats that occurred the day before.

July 15

• Deputies responded to a trespassing call at an Eastsound business. The suspect was located, arrested, and transported to jail in Friday Harbor.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of found property and entered the property into the evidence system.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of an assault. The deputies received two very different versions of the incident. Since there wasn’t enough corroborating evidence to make an arrest, both parties were advised to stay away from each other.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of a protection order violation. The respondent in the order communicated with the protected party by making a rude hand gesture toward them. The case was forwarded to the prosecutor for a charging decision.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a person reportedly experiencing a crisis.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a citizen assistance call. After an investigation, it was determined no crime was committed and the matter was civil in nature.

• A deputy was dispatched to a reported domestic incident on San Juan. The deputy arrived, contacted the people involved, and determined the incident was verbal only with no crime committed.

July 16

• A San Juan deputy entered multiple found keys into the evidence system.

• A deputy on Lopez responded to a report of vandalism involving a street sign that had been knocked over and damaged more than a week earlier. The deputy photographed the sign. There are currently no suspects or workable leads.

• A deputy responded to a report of an animal bite on Lopez. The victim was treated by EMS and later went to the hospital to be safe. The victim did not want to pursue any criminal charges, as it was an accident.

• A person wanted on an outstanding misdemeanor no-bail-warrant out of San Juan County District Court was located by San Juan deputies and booked into jail.

• A deputy on Lopez responded to a report of property damage. A citizen’s mailbox had been hit and knocked over earlier in the day. There are currently no suspects or workable leads.

• A local transient was located by a property owner in a parking area on San Juan. A deputy from the sheriff’s office issued a trespass warning letter to the person at the request of the property owner.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 50 mph in a mph zone and for not having proof of liability insurance.

• A Lopez deputy submitted a found wallet to evidence. Efforts to locate the out-of-town owner were unsuccessful.

July 17

• A Lopez deputy completed a report documenting alleged harassment during an ongoing dispute between neighbors.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a possible vehicle prowl. The suspect entered a vehicle and left a note inside. The incident is currently being investigated.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for speeding, 54 mph in 35 miles per hour zone.

• A driver traveling 60 mph in a 35 mph zone on Orcas was stopped and issued a citation for speeding.

July 18

• Lopez deputies were dispatched to a report of CPR in progress. After lifesaving efforts were given, the victim was declared deceased. The death appears to have been of natural causes.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of a verbal altercation at mailboxes. There was no physical contact, but the reporting party felt threatened. No immediately identifying information about the suspect was obtained.

• An Orcas deputy, along with Orcas Fire and Rescue units, responded to a two-vehicle non-injury collision. One of the drivers was issued a citation for violating a learner’s permit, driving dangerously distracted and operating a motor vehicle without liability insurance.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 46 mph in a 25 mph zone, and for not having proof of liability insurance.

July 19

• A deputy responded to a report of suspicious circumstances on San Juan. After talking with the parties involved it was determined that there was no probable cause a crime was committed.

• San Juan deputies located a person with a felony warrant. In the course of a conversation with the deputies, the suspect ran into their residence and locked the door. Deputies were able to get the subject to come outside, where they were arrested and booked into jail.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle who had a suspended driver’s license. The deputy’s report was sent to the prosecutor’s office for a charging decision.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of vandalism. Two mailboxes, secured with concrete in the ground, had been knocked over. The deputy photographed the scene. Currently, there are no suspects or workable leads.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to found property at a local business. The owner was contacted and the property return was set up.

• A deputy received a report of a found property. A watch was located in the women’s restroom at the courthouse on San Juan. Currently, it is unknown who the owner is so the watch was booked into evidence for safekeeping.

• A deputy on San Juan booked an individual without incident into the county jail after they turned themselves in for outstanding warrants.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report that a back window on an unoccupied house had been broken out. It appeared as though someone had been inside though no biological evidence or latent fingerprints were able to be collected.
