The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Aug. 24

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of animal noise. The dog’s owner was contacted and was asked to quiet the dog so as to not disturb neighbors.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a non-injury collision involving a boat off a trailer in the roadway. The driver was issued a citation for an unsecured load and given multiple warnings.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a fraud call where the reporting party received a text message asking they click on a link to collect money. They did not and reported it to the company that the text stated it was from.

• On Lopez, a deputy took possession of a found Utah driver’s license on the side of Davis Bay Road. The deputy contacted the owner of the license and mailed it back.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a barking dog. The reporting party hoped that a deputy talking to the dog’s owners would help the situation. The dog’s owners were provided a copy of the county noise ordinance rules and were understanding.

• A Lopez deputy directed traffic for a tow truck that was recovering a pickup truck that had crashed on Port Stanley Road.

• An Orcas woman turned in a handmade bag she had found on the beach. The bag was booked into the property room at the Orcas substation.

• San Juan deputy responded to a report of fraud. An investigation revealed no loss had been incurred and only partial information was obtained. The reporting party was advised to monitor their credit and notify their bank.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of intoxicating liquor and/or drugs.

• Orcas deputies responded to a call from a resident on Waldron Island regarding a trespassing complaint. No suspects were located.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a civil dispute regarding a vehicle that is being sold. The reporting party provided a statement and the incident was documented.

Aug. 25

• A deputy on Orcas was informed of a wanted person at the ferry terminal. The person was found, arrested, and booked into jail.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of an order violation that had occurred several days prior. The incident will be investigated and a report will be sent to the prosecutor’s office.

• An Orcas deputy authored a courtesy report for a vehicle that was hit on private property.

• A deputy on San Juan trespassed an individual from a local business’ common area due to vagrancy and consuming alcohol.

• A Lopez citizen witnessed a man throw a beer can out of a vehicle window. When deputies located and questioned the described man, he denied throwing any garbage. The deputy searched for it but was unable to find any beer cans in the area.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a hit-and-run accident at the ferry terminal. A motorcycle driver lost control, collided with a parked vehicle and left the area without exchanging information with the victim. The fleeing driver was located and identified, and the case will be forwarded to the prosecuting attorney’s office.

Aug. 26

• In Friday Harbor, a deputy was contacted about a suspicious circumstance. A person had located a baggy with white powder inside. The baggy was entered into evidence to be destroyed.

• Lopez deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call. Upon investigation, someone had accidentally dialed 911 from their pocket while mowing the lawn.

• An Orcas deputy responded to and conducted an investigation about a roll-over traffic collision on Point Lawrence Road.

• A deputy on San Juan took a complaint from a citizen about the behavior of a Washington State Ferry employee. A statement was filled out and the incident will be forwarded.

Aug. 27

• A Lopez deputy performed a welfare check at the request of an out-of-state relative. All was fine.

• A deputy located a vehicle on San Juan that had been struck while parked and investigated the incident. The driver of the vehicle that had struck the parked vehicle contacted deputies and provided their information.

• A deputy on San Juan was flagged down about a dog-at-large. The dog was secured and returned to its owner who was issued a citation for a dog-at-large, first offense.

• A deputy was dispatched to a trespassing on San Juan.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a single-vehicle collision with injury. The driver stopped when a scooter in front stopped suddenly. The scooter fell over and the driver sustained possible injuries.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a call of a suspicious container on North Beach Road. A plastic ammo box containing a tow strap was collected and booked.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a trespassing call. A person was arrested for first-degree trespassing, obstructing law enforcement, and possession of stolen property-second degree. At the time of the arrest, the identity of the arrested person was unknown.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a domestic incident at Roche Harbor. While investigating the incident, one party kicked the other in the presence of the deputy. The kicker was arrested and booked into jail for assault- fourth-degree domestic violence.

Aug. 28

• A deputy was contacted about a vehicle prowl in the Friday Harbor area. The person reported that their vehicle had been parked at their residence and had been gone through during the night. Some small items were reported taken.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of found property report.

Aug. 29

• Two firearms were turned over to a Lopez deputy for destruction. Both firearms were checked and found to be clear.

• An Orcas deputy investigated the theft of a firearm from a residence. A report was authored, and the investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy on Orcas received a found shotgun to be destroyed at the request of the property owner.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of found property. Two credit cards were turned in and entered into evidence.

Aug. 30

• A person turned in some property located in Friday Harbor area. The item was entered into evidence.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a found property call near the ferry landing. The purse and all its contents were booked into the evidence room and logged accordingly.

• A deputy was dispatched to a welfare check in the San Juans. The deputy made contact with the person who was transported for additional assistance.

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of dogs chasing a cat. The dogs were located by the cat owner and turned over to the person who was caretaking them. The cat was later found deceased.

• A deputy was contacted about a burglary in the San Juan area that had occurred a few days prior.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident. One individual was arrested for domestic violence harassment and booked into jail.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a juvenile using their parents’ credit card when they were not supposed to. The parents did not wish to pursue criminal charges.

• A deputy responded to an agency assist on San Juan. The involved individual stated that they were fine and were going to handle the situation on their own.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of found property. The owner was located and the property was returned.

• A deputy on San Juan spoke with a citizen who stated trees had been cut down on their property without permission. The citizen will be attempting to resolve the problem with property management.

• Orcas deputies responded to an unwanted person who was trespassing on private property. The suspect had fled the area.
