The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.

May 18

• An Orcas deputy served a person with a trespass warning letter from the Washington State Ferry system after the person caused a disturbance on the Tillikum.

• A deputy responded to a report of a found wallet in Friday Harbor. The owner could not be located and the wallet was entered into the property room before the deputy’s shift.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of two at-large dogs that were found to have killed two chickens. The victim did not wish to pursue charges and the owner was warned about having a dog-at-large.

• A San Juan deputy conducted a welfare check. and, though no crime had been committed, the report was forwarded to Child Protective Services for follow-up.

• A boat came loose in Fisherman Bay during extreme wind conditions on Lopez. A coast guard helicopter was deployed, and marine center staff secured the adrift vessel and ferried the people on board back to the safety of land.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of vandalism involving several spots in Lopez Skate Park tagged with graffiti. The investigation is ongoing.

• Deputies responded to an unwanted person at an Eastsound business. The person was located and given a trespass warning letter and told that if they went into the business again, they would be arrested for trespassing.

• A San Juan deputy was advised that a fugitive had fled to Friday Harbor to avoid prosecution. The suspect was later located and booked into jail to await extradition.

May 19

• A person with a felony warrant out of California was contacted by a San Juan deputy and booked into jail pending extradition.

• A deputy investigated the theft of a dog on Orcas and identified a suspect. The investigation is ongoing.

• An Orcas deputy issued a trespass warning letter to a person for the library.

• In Friday Harbor, a deputy responded to a report of a found ring on the road. An owner was unable to be identified and the ring was entered into the property room per policy.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a fraud callback. The person calling said they had sent a check to a third party and, once they found out it was a scam contacted their bank right away. Nothing was lost.

• A San Juan deputy was approached by a citizen who reported a possible case of vandalism. The incident was documented and no suspect information is currently known.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a civil call and took a report.

May 20

• An Orcas deputy completed a found report for property left at the Sheriff’s substation.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a weapons offense where someone had displayed a knife in a threatening manner. The person was arrested for weapons apparently capable [of producing bodily harm], and resisting arrest.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of an unwanted person at a local business. The person was found and given a no-trespass warning letter, and told if they went into the business again, they would be arrested for trespassing.

• A deputy took a residential burglary call near Eastsound. After an investigation, no evidence of a burglary was found.

May 21

• Deputies responded to a domestic incident in Friday Harbor. One person was arrested for assault in the fourth-degree domestic violence and booked into jail.

• A deputy responded to an unattended death in Eastsound.

• An Orcas deputy investigated a call of littering on Shaner Armstrong Lane.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a speeding citation for traveling 60 mph in a 35mph zone, not having a valid operator’s license with I.D., having registration expired for more than two months, and not having proof of insurance.

• San Juan deputies responded to a rollover collision on Cattle Point Road. One vehicle was involved; the single occupant was uninjured and showed no signs of impairment. The driver said they swerved to avoid an animal in the road.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a civil callback.

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a citation for speeding, 56 mph in a 35 mph zone and not having proof of insurance.

May 22

• A Lopez deputy responded to a welfare check. The person was found alive and well.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a call from a citizen who wanted to report someone in their house who was bothering them. Once there, deputies discovered no crime had been committed.

• A Lopez deputy moved a van-camping couple to an appropriate overnight parking area.

May 23

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a vehicle collision. The collision was not able to be reported because of the location. Information will be exchanged between parties.

• A wanted person turned themself in to deputies on Orcas, was booked, and transported over to Friday Harbor.

• The Lopez school reported the theft and destruction of a track hurdle.

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a single-vehicle roll-over accident. The driver was evaluated by EMS and declined further medical treatment. The driver was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence and issued citations for expired registration and driving too fast for conditions.

May 24

• A deputy on Orcas conducted a traffic stop in Moran State Park. The stopped driver was issued a citation for speeding, 35 mph in a posted 25 mph zone.

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to a two-vehicle minor accident with no reported injuries. Both vehicles, however, had minor damage and were still drivable. A state collision report was completed, and an exchange-of-information form was provided to both drivers.

May 25

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a single-vehicle accident. The driver was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence and issued multiple citations.
