The San Juan County Land Bank will host an interpretive walk of the Judd Cove Preserve on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 1 to 2:30 p.m.

Preserve Steward Ruthie Dougherty will guide the interpretive walk, exploring the preserve’s natural and cultural history, including the lime quarry and kiln located on the property. The property housed what was reportedly San Juan County’s last remaining “log dump.”

The land bank has owned Judd Cove land since 2000, but in 2008 it purchased another six acres that allowed the creation of public waterfront access.

Attendees will meet at the preserve parking area at 103 Fowler’s Way in Eastsound. Carpooling is recommended, as parking is limited. For more information, call 378-4402.

Other Orcas Island Land Bank preserves include Eastsound Waterfront Park, Crescent Beach Preserve, Turtleback Mountain Preserve, Deer Harbor Preserve and Stonebridge-Terrill Preserve. A map of land bank-owned Orcas Island properties can be viewed online here.
