The Orcas Island School District (OISD) has recently strengthened its support of OASIS, the Alternative Learning Experience (ALE) school. OISD is currently accepting enrollment in the program.
In its effort to reach out to parents, the OISD has created an OASIS K-8 Site Council consisting of parents and staff whose charter is to make recommendations to the board, maintain program continuity and act as a liaison between school and parents (when needed). This council will further develop, define and maintain home-based educational support for OASIS K-8 students. In addition, the OISD has established a dedicated space at the elementary school for the use of OASIS students in kindergarten through eighth grade. This space houses a library of K-8 educational materials, which are available for check-out to OASIS students.
Enrollment in the OASIS program can provide support for home-based education from kindergarten through 12th grade. Assistance is provided to make a student learneing plan, tailored to the individual student by OASIS staff, parents and the students themselves. In addition, the OASIS High School offers a flexible alternative high school program for students in grades 9 – 12.
The OASIS High School works with individual students, as well as with families pursuing home-based education. The OASIS High School staff is committed to providing creative, flexible, and individualized educational options and support to their students. The OASIS High School also has a dedicated space (in the library building) and can provide educational materials for OASIS students in grades 9 – 12.
Parents who currently home-school their child or children, are encouraged to call for more information about home-based instruction with OISD.
