Jason Schible charged with failure to register as a sex offender

Jason Michael Schible of Lopez Island has been charged with failure to register as a sex offender.

The San Juan County Prosecuting Attorney’s office alleges that Schible, 31, failed to notify the sheriff’s office about his change of address. He was also charged with failure to register as a sex offender in 2008. The state requests that bail should be set at $5,000.

Schible pleaded guilty in 2007 to the charge of rape of a child in the third degree and is a registered sex offender. According to court documents, he had an ongoing sexual relationship with a 14-year-old girl on Lopez Island and violated a restraining order.

According to the determination of probable cause, a deputy tried to locate Schible at his listed address during a sex offender residence verification on Nov. 16. Schible’s father said he had moved to another part of the island and according to the deputy was “evasive” as to when that occurred. On Nov. 17, Schible called dispatch to say he had moved to a new residence six days earlier. The deputy tried to contact him at the new address but was unable to do so. A check of an OPALCO bill showed that Schible had been paying utilities at the “new” address since Sept. 28. Schible is required to notify the sheriff’s office of an address change within three business days.
