It’s time to caucus | Letter

"Ladies and gentlemen, do you know that while there is a Primary Election in Washington state, delegates to the national conventions are chosen from the caucuses?"

Ladies and gentlemen, do you know that while there is a Primary Election in Washington state, delegates to the national conventions are chosen from the caucuses? Republicans have the luxury of voting at caucus or in the primary election. Half of the Republican delegates to its national convention are chosen from each source. In fact, Republicans can have their vote counted twice by participating in both events.

But while Democrats can vote in the state primary in May, the Democratic Committee of Washington State does not use its outcome for choosing delegates to its national convention in Philadelphia! If you are a Democrat, the ONLY way you can have your vote count on Orcas Island is to cast it at the caucus to be held at the public school on March 26.This is particularly unfortunate this year. Many Clinton supporters with whom I’ve spoken are literally afraid to caucus due to vehement and uncivil language that has been projected toward our candidate and ourselves.

So I understand the personal bravery it will take for you to join me and my compatriots at the caucus to vote for one of the most internationally-respected and qualified candidates America has ever known. Sincerely hope to see you there.
