In Memory of Indira Monk

Submitted by Ruth Walter, Orcas Island.

Indira was my friend and neighbor and co-worker. We took time to walk and do the little things with each other. Early on, I learned a deep appreciation of her creative vision. Later, I learned to understand how she spread her talents to many arts; ceramics, painting, photography, cooking, and life in general.

I was able to visit her as she finished out her life in Anacortes, and I miss her, still. It is in me to provide space for those of us who knew her and loved her (or not, perhaps; she was opinionated and outspoken) to share the memories. I have a couple of pictures of her to represent the ways we saw her, and I have a basket of photographs she took and printed but had not yet utilized.

I will leave a book for memories and hope you will write and share stories about Indira and her connections.

I also hope to spread out the photographs into the community. The Library has agreed to host a space during the month of August so that we can all stop by and leave a few words.
