The second of several meetings to discuss the Country Corners Limited Area of More Intensive Rural Development, saw a larger attendance of area residents wanting to discuss the process with the San Juan County Community Development and Planning Department.

“The meeting went really well,” Senior Planner Colin Maycock said. “I was expecting something quite different.

“It was a lot less rancorous than I expected and in fact, it was a very productive meeting.”

Ron Henrickson, director of community development and planning, gave an overview of the public process, explained the LAMIRD in relation to the Growth Management Act and how the proposed boundary was determined.

Maycock and Henrickson explained potential zoning inside and outside the LAMIRD.

“There were some people who were less than satisfied,” Maycock said.

“Some people were opposed to having a LAMIRD at all. We will look at different options for internal joining of the LAMIRD and will reexamine the border. We will take another look, but ultimately we have to do what is defendable.”

The next meeting will be March 30 at 7 p.m. at the Eastsound Fire Station.
