Granny’s Attic offering the best in used island goods

It’s the ultimate yard sale, all under one roof.

Now in it’s fourth year, Granny’s Attic is the premier place to find both the unusual and the traditional in used items. This year, the community has donated a variety of treasures, from a brand new table saw to Barack Obama memorabilia to an Italian dish set.

“In this economy, what is better than a garage sale?” organizer Jane Heisinger said.

The sale, on April 18 from 10 to 3 p.m., benefits the Orcas Senior Center. Typically it brings in between $7,000 and $10,000. The center’s other primary fundraiser is the Holiday Festival.

Granny’s Attic chairperson Michele Streich and Heisinger say the Orcas community always donates interesting items.

“Response from the community is amazing, from both people who donate and those who come to the sale. It helps the seniors and the public, who use the building for classes,” Heisinger said.

In addition to providing social interaction for seniors, the center offers oil painting classes, tai chi sessions, a foot care program, lunches twice a week, and transportation.

All three rooms in the senior center will be filled with goods. A silent auction is planned for items like the table saw and large pieces of furniture.

From 2 to 3 p.m., shoppers can fill a bag for $5 in the general room; higher end items will be at half price. The community is asked to bring cloth bags to the sale to cut down on paper.

Items can still be dropped off for Granny’s Attic on April 16 from noon to 3 p.m.
