The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

April 30

• A Friday Harbor resident reported a package that may have been stolen from her mailbox sometime around April 16.

• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on North Beach Road. The driver, a local, was subsequently issued an infraction for driving 38 mph in a designated 25 mph zone.

• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Olga Road. The driver, a visitor, was subsequently issued an infraction for driving 51 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Olga Road. The driver, a visitor, was subsequently issued an infraction for driving 38 mph in a 25 mph designated zone.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a domestic incident. Investigation revealed the incident was verbal in nature only. A report was generated to document the incident.

May 1

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for expired registration and driving left of center. The driver was issued infractions for expired registration over two months, driving left of center and failure to notify the Department of Licensing of address change.

• A deputy on Orcas Island received firearms surrendered pursuant to a court order.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a citizen dispute involving a vehicle versus dog collision. Parties were separated and informed of the process to get a copy of the report.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for failing to stop at a stop sign, driving left of center, and traveling 46 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone. The driver was issued infractions for speed and failing to stop at a stop sign. Additional warnings were given.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a mental health issue. A person was found to be in crisis and transported to the hospital for evaluation.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a complaint of vandalism to a vehicle. No damage was found. The deputy completed an informational report.

May 2

• San Juan deputies responded to a fight. Upon arrival, the parties were gone but were located nearby. As deputies attempted to detain an individual, they resisted and were arrested for resisting arrest and obstructing. Suspected methamphetamine was located in their backpack.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a missing person complaint. Information regarding the missing person was entered into the national database.

• A Lopez deputy was contacted regarding a residential burglary. The complaint was unfounded. Landlord/tenant rules and the proper eviction procedures were discussed.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a trouble unknown. Deputies arrived and observed that a vehicle had left the roadway and struck a building. The driver was arrested for DUI.

May 3

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for traveling 44 mph on Spring Street. The driver was issued an infraction for speed.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for driving left of center. The driver was arrested for DUI and multiple counts of reckless endangerment as three of the passengers were under 18, including a toddler. The driver’s blood alcohol content was twice the legal limit.

May 4

• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Orcas Road. The driver, a local, was subsequently issued an infraction for driving 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• A deputy was dispatched to an alcohol offense in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy arrived and observed a person consuming alcohol in public. The person was issued an infraction for open container/consuming alcohol in public.

• An Orcas Island Deputy stopped a vehicle on Orcas Road. The driver, a local, was subsequently issued a criminal citation for driving while license suspended in the third degree and infractions for driving 54 mph in a 40 mph zone, expired registration greater than two months and not having vehicle insurance.

• Deputies were dispatched to an alcohol offense in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy arrived and contacted a person with an open can of alcohol. The person was issued an infraction for open container/consuming liquor in public.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a report of a man walking a goat on the beach. The incident was documented.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of damage to a vessel in Friday Harbor. The offending vessel left the port without providing information. The offending vessel owner was identified and an exchange of information was facilitated. A report was completed.

• A Lopez deputy responded when an off-leash dog entered a neighboring property and attacked another dog. The attacking dog owner was issued a criminal citation for public nuisance.

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a hit-and-run property damage report. An investigation commenced and is ongoing.

May 5

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a civil call. The incident was found to be only civil in nature. The deputy provided resources to the parties involved.

• An Orcas Island Deputy issued a no-trespass warning letter to a local resident.

• Orcas Island deputies responded to a medical unconscious call. Deputies assisted emergency medical services in loading the patient into the ambulance. The patient was flown off to the hospital.

• A Friday Harbor woman made a report that her vehicle was prowled, and money was taken from inside her car while parked at the Roche Harbor Marina. An investigation is being conducted.

• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Orcas Road. The driver, a local, was subsequently issued an infraction for driving 57 mph in a 40 mph zone.

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a found property. A citizen brought in a phone that was found. The deputy booked the phone into evidence as found property.

• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Orcas Road. The driver, a visitor, was subsequently issued an infraction for driving 57 mph in a 40 mph zone.

• A Friday Harbor student was reported for being in possession of marijuana and vaping products. The items were confiscated from the student and he was released to his mother. The items were turned over to the Sheriff’s Office and booked into evidence. A report will be referred to Juvenile Court.

• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of a juvenile in a mental health crisis. The juvenile was taken to the emergency room for further care. A report was completed.

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding, 58 mph in a 40 mph zone.

May 6

• A deputy on Orcas Island responded to a domestic dispute. After investigating, the deputy determined no crime had been committed. The complainant was provided with contact information for local resources.

• An Orcas Island deputy responded to the Orcas Island Middle School for a vandalism report. An investigation was conducted and found that two juveniles spray painted on the outside basketball court. The juveniles were referred to juvenile court services.

• An Orcas Island deputy investigated an Adult Protective Services referral.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of found property. A cell phone was located at Outlook Park, and the owner was unable to be located. The phone was placed into evidence as found property.

• A deputy on Orcas Island received a complaint involving advertisement signage being tossed into the bushes. The investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy on San Juan Island conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle on Cattle Point Road. The driver was issued infractions for 77 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone, as well as no motorcycle endorsement. A report was completed.
