The Funhouse Commons held its 16th annual science fair for elementary through high school students on Saturday, March 26.

The “Best use of Chemistry Memorial for Marian A Berdan” awards were: first place, $50, Kai Litch; second place, $30, Tim Jenson; third place, $20, Sheamus Summers. As the first place winner, Litch also received the Richie Moore Rocketship of Wonder Award, which will hang in the Funhouse.

The following scholarships, provided and presented by Darrell Brayer of San Juan Insurance, were awarded to middle and high school students. The first place winners will share a $1,200 scholarship: Birdie Greening and Kataya Rain. Second place winners will split a $750 scholarship: Joanne Mietzner and Joie Zier. Third place prize of $400 will be shared between Arla Sutton and Maya Heikkinen.

Every participant also got a certificate and a small science prize. While the projects were being judged, attendees enjoyed fruit, vegetables and barbecued foods, played with soap bubbles and melted aluminum cans and poured moulds. Reptile Man Scott Petersen from the Reptile Zoo in Monroe and his reptiles entertained.
