San Juan County Sheriff’s Department reported responding to these calls:

Nov. 3: A Lopez Island man discovered someone had secretly tapped his bank account in September after he was asked two months later for his approval on a much larger transfer of cash. The request was denied and the 68-year-old reportedly had the earlier fraudulent transfer refunded by the bank.

Nov. 8: A large quantity of alcohol vanished from the the Orcas Island Yacht Club in an apparent case of theft. A member of the club reportedly discovered an unlocked door and $330 worth of alcohol missing from the Deer Harbor building two days after its stock of alcohol had been inventoried.

Nov. 10: Two vehicles parked outside a Friday Harbor apartment and condo building sustained heavy damage in an apparent act of vandalism. Someone reportedly shattered the headlights, taillights and rear view mirrors on both vehicles, and put deep scratches in body paint of each as well. Both vehicles were in the parking lot of the Tucker Avenue apartment building at the time.

A Lopez Island woman claims someone secretly tapped into her bank account and used it to pay bills without her knowledge or permission. The 73-year-old reportedly discovered the fraudulent transactions – totaling $975 – only after reviewing her most recent bank statement.

Nov. 11: A complaint about a car repeatedly revving its engine in the parking lot of the Orcas Island library led to the arrest of an Orcas man on drug-related charges. The 25-year-old, charged with possession of meth and marijuana, reportedly was passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle, with the engine running, at about 11 p.m.

Accusations of assault prompted the arrest of Orcas Island man accused of punching his estranged wife’s friend in the face during an early-morning altercation at the alleged victim’s Dolphin Bay Road home. The man, also accused of violating a protection order, was taken into custody at about 10 a.m. The man’s wife was reportedly inside the home of her friend when the 48-year-old allegedly hit him in the face.

Nov. 12: A late-night single-car crash in the 1000 block of Guard Street led to the arrest of a San Juan Island for DUI. The 48-year-old, wanted also in Snohomish County in connection with a prior DUI arrest, was taken into custody at about 10 p.m. She also faces a charge with driving with a suspended license.

Nov. 15: A San Juan Island teen accused stealing his father’s girlfriend’s SUV, and of crashing it into a fence and abandoning it in a field faces possible theft and alcohol-related charges. Officers allegedly found alcohol inside the vehicle, which was recovered near the intersection of Bailer Hill and False Bay roads. The 15-year-old boy reportedly escaped the crash without injury.

Nov. 16: An Orcas Island man convicted of DUI three years ago faces new penalties for allegedly violating court-ordered restrictions. The 73-year-old was reportedly found passed out behind the wheel in the ferry landing parking lot shortly after noon. Officers allegedly found a partially consumed bottle of alcohol on the front passenger seat of the man’s car.

A familiar face and blemished driving record prompted the arrest of a San Juan Island man for driving with a suspended license following an early-morning traffic stop. The 57-year-old, who was taken into custody at about 9:30 a.m., was pulled over near the intersection of Marble Street and Tucker Avenue by an officer who reportedly knew the man and about his restricted driving status.

Nov. 18: Driving without headlights on led to a pre-dawn traffic stop and arrest of a San Juan Island man for DUI. The 25-year-old was pulled over near the First and Court streets shortly after 3 a.m.

Nov. 19: A Lopez Island man was arrested on felony drug charges after a search warrant was executed at the man’s home on Fisherman Bay Road. Officers reportedly seized 4.5 ounces of methamphetamine from the home of the 36-year-old, who was taken into custody shortly before noon.

Nov. 20: A combination of snow, ice and a heavy foot were blamed for a early afternoon rollover collision on the outskirts of Eastsound that left an Orcas man dangling upside down and with an injured shoulder. The 45-year-old, traveling among a line of vehicles headed toward Eastsound from the ferry landing, lost control of his sedan after hitting the brakes on a downward slope in the 3300 block of Orcas Road. The vehicle reportedly did a 180-degree turn moments before it left the roadway and toppled down a 10-foot embankment, and landed upside down.

Nov. 21: Roughly $3,000 in personal belongings disappeared from a convertible that – because of snow and ice – was left at the pullout on Orcas Island’s Crescent Beach Road in an apparent theft. The owner of the vehicle, a 47-year-old Orcas man whose home burned down earlier in the year, reportedly found the cover of the convertible had been slashed and his belongings, including a lap top computer, digital camera, two leather jackets and two cartons of cigarettes, missing when he came to retrieve the car the following day.

Nov. 22: Snow, ice and a steep incline were blamed for a late-morning collision near the intersection of Guard and Marguerite Streets. A 57-year-old San Juan Island woman, who intended to turn left onto Guard Street, collided with a county-owned vehicle as she reportedly slid into the intersection.

Nov. 23: An arrest warrant prompted an Everett man wanted in connection with an alleged felony crime to turn himself in to authorities in Friday Harbor. The 46-year-old surrendered at the Sheriff’s headquarters about 11:45 a.m.
