Fire Tuesday at Cascade Bay Grill does minimal damage

Responding to a reported grill fire at the Cascade Bay Grill at Rosario Resort yesterday afternoon, Orcas Fire and Rescue found a fire in the crawl space under the building.

The grill, which is on schedule to open this Friday for the season, was minimally damaged.

“All the damage was repaired by 5 p.m. yesterday,” Rosario Spokesperson Christoper Peacock said. “Fortunately, the fire was right next to the refrigeration unit and all the spoke vented our through the fan.”

The fire started when a stray spark from welding maintenance work spread flame to the floor joists.

The fire department used the thermal imaging camera to check for heat in the walls and floor which pin points remaining hot spots and allowed the firefighters to search for remaining fire without removing sheetrock and flooring.
