Ezra John Ferchen, 33, of Lopez Island was charged with harassment to kill by San Juan County Superior Court after an incident during which he allegedly threatened to kill two people on Lopez.
According to the certification for determination of probable cause, Ferchen, who had been barred from a house for “erratic behavior” days before, entered the home of the victims on April 7. One victim said Ferchen arrived at about 10:10 p.m. and allegedly threatened both victims with bodily harm and death. The same victim said he was afraid of Ferchen and that he believed he was under the influence of methamphetamines at the time. The second victim of the threat was sleeping during the interaction.
The victim who confronted Ferchen was able to talk him into moving the discussion outside and ultimately to leave the property. According to court documents, Ferchen said, “You are going to die” as he walked away. Ferchen was no longer at the property when deputies arrived, but they found him on the road at 11:40 p.m. and took him into custody on outstanding arrest warrants for failure to appear in district court in January.
Prosecuting Attorney Teresa Barnett requested that Ferchen is held until his arraignment on a $5,000 bond. The victim filed a harassment no-contact order that expires at Furchen’s arraignment. His arraignment is at 9 a.m. on April 20 in superior court.
Previously, Ferchen was charged with marijuana possession less than or equal to 40 ounces in August 2006; assault in the fourth degree — domestic violence in May 2013; driving under the influence in May 2013; two counts of felony unlawful possession of a firearm in the second degree in January 2016; and assault in the fourth degree in March 2017.
