San Juan County Sheriff’s Department reported responding to these calls:

April 23: Excessive speed led to an early-evening arrest of an Orcas Island man for driving with a suspended license. The 46-year-old was pulled over near the intersection of Deer Harbor Road and Wildrose Lane at about 8 p.m.

April 24: A 16-year-old Orcas Island girl accused of stealing a memory book that a woman crafted for a friend was arrested on theft charges. The memory book, which reportedly never reached the person for whom it was intended, vanished from the Orcas Community Church shortly after its completion.

April 26: A 16-year-old San Juan Island boy was arrested at the high school in Friday Harbor on alcohol-related charges. The boy, who was taken into custody at about 1:30 p.m., was later released to his parents.

April 27: A San Juan Island woman who reportedly was “texting” moments before crashing into parked pickup truck was ticketed for negligent driving and for driving without insurance. The 24-year-old reportedly lost control of her vehicle and rear-ended the pickup, which was unoccupied at the time, near the intersection of Argyle Avenue and Caines Street at about 9 p.m.

A warrant led to a late-night arrest of a San Juan Island man who happened to be visiting friends at the time a deputy dropped by their home to gather information about an unrelated incident. The 47-year-old, reportedly sitting on a couch in the front room when the officer arrived at his friend’s home, was taken into custody at about 9:30 p.m.

April 30: A Lopez Island man who’s pigs ransacked a neighbor’s flower garden three weeks earlier was slapped with a criminal citation after failing to appear in court. The 32-year-old, who was confronted at home about the absence in court, reportedly was reminded the court appearance which he missed was not optional.

May 6: Expired tags prompted the arrest of an Orcas Island man for driving with a suspended license following a late-night traffic stop in Eastsound. The 41-year-old, who was pulled over near the intersection of Crescent Beach and Olga roads, was taken into custody at about midnight.

A 8-foot-long skiff that recently belonged to the Town of Friday Harbor vanished from the town-owned parking lot on Marguerite Street in an apparent case of theft. The skiff, which fetched $135 at auction, reportedly disappeared just three days after it was sold.

May 7: Two San Juan Island men were arrested for violating court orders following a late-afternoon get-together in Sunken Park gazebo in which they were reportedly drinking. Both the 25-year-old and the 24-year-old, confronted in the gazebo at about 4 p.m., are prohibited by court orders from drinking alcohol.

May 8: The property manager of a Deer Harbor vacation home believes someone slipped into the home and stayed there sometime within the past several months after finding a pair of scissors and a knife missing from the kitchen. The manager of the home, which belongs to a South Carolina man, noted other tale-tell signs of someone staying there in addition to the missing cutlery.

Failure to use a turn signal prompted a mid-afternoon traffic stop and arrest of a 72-year-old Orcas Island man for driving with a suspended license. He was pulled over shortly before 2 p.m. for failing to signal while making a turn at the intersection of School and West Beach roads. Authorities were reportedly unable to determine why the man’s license, issued by California, had been suspended at the time of the traffic stop.

May 9: An Orcas Island man who reportedly crashed into another vehicle in the parking lot of an auto parts store on Mount Baker Road and left the scene was later arrested for DUI. The 20-year-old was tracked down and taken into custody at about 3:30 p.m.

A suspended license and a chance encounter with a deputy led to the arrest of a 18-year-old San Juan Island man who was riding a motorcycle in the Sunday Drive neighborhood. He was released at the scene after signing a criminal citation that requires him to appear in court.

May 10: A Bothell woman was uninjured and able to drive her 4-door Acura from the scene following an early-morning, and fatal, collision with a deer on San Juan Island. The deer, which reportedly jumped a guardrail and into the road moments before the collision, suffered fatal injuries when it was struck near the intersection of Hillview Lane and Roche Harbor Road at about 6:30 a.m.

May 12: Four windows were broken out of a bunkhouse belonging to the UW Friday Labs on Shaw Island in an apparent act of vandalism. The interior of the 500-square-foot bunkhouse, located in the 800 block of Hoffman Road, reportedly was ransacked as well, with furniture and a refrigerator knocked over and lying on the floor.

An Orcas Island man who allegedly trailed a woman to her home following an early morning public meeting in Eastsound was later arrested for violating a protection. The 43-year-old was tracked down and apprehended after the woman notified authorities of the alleged violation.

A San Juan Island woman turned in $71 in cash that her husband reportedly found in the Friday Harbor Airport parking lot. The woman filled out the necessary paperwork to keep the cash if the person who lost it doesn’t come by to the Sheriff’s office to reclaim it.

May 13: A warrant and a chance encounter with a deputy led to a late-night arrest of a San Juan Island man outside the courthouse in Friday Harbor. The 25-year-old, who reportedly is homeless and faces an alleged felony offense, was taken into custody at about 9 p.m.

May 15: The rear window of a BMW sedan was shattered sometime during a five-day stay in the parking lot of the airport in Friday Harbor. Authorities were unable to determined that cause of the broken window, which will reportedly cost $2,500 to replace.
