The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Aug. 19

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of animal-at-large at 7997 Roche Harbor Rd. An informational report was completed.

• A San Juan deputy ticketed the owner of a vessel for failing to display the proper permit at the San Juan County Dock in Roche Harbor. The deputy later voided the ticket as the owner did, in fact, have a permit.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a welfare check at 1186 Lawson Road. An eviction notice was posted on the property.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of an alleged sex offense. An initial report was completed and the investigation continues.

• A Lopez deputy was called upon for a VIN inspection. Upon learning what the caller’s intentions for the vehicle were, the matter was referred to the Washington State Patrol.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle as the driver had a suspended driver’s license. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license in the third degree.

• Orcas deputies responded to a citizen dispute. No crime was found to have been committed.

Aug. 20

• A citizen on Lopez reported his cell phone missing after dropping it along the roadway. He located the phone through an app, and a deputy was able to recover it from a bicyclist who picked it up with intent to turn it in.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a citizen assist.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to an agency assist.

Aug. 21

• On San Juan, a deputy responded to an incident of domestic violence. The incident was investigated and found to be verbal only. The involved parties separated for the night.

• San Juan deputies were dispatched to a domestic incident. Deputies found that one of the parties suffers from medical issues as a result of Alzheimer’s. One person was transported to the medical center for further evaluation.

• A deputy received a fraud complaint from a Lopez resident. The victim was scammed out of money after receiving a telephone call from a person claiming to work for Apple support. The scammer convinced him that he needed to release bank account information to remedy the problem.

• A deputy on Orcas received a report of an identity theft. A report was filed and the investigation is ongoing.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 60 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding and a warning for having an obstructed license plate.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license and received citations for traveling 61 mph in a 45 mph speed zone and for not having insurance.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a report of a verbal altercation. One of the participants was cited for disorderly conduct.

• A San Juan deputy conducted a traffic stop in the 700 block of Park Street. After further investigation the driver was arrested on an out-of-county warrant; driving under the influence; driving with a suspended license; driving without an ignition interlock; and possession of drugs. The subject was booked into jail.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for driving left of the center lines. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence; for reckless endangerment; and was issued citations for not having a valid driver’s license with identification and for driving left of center.

Aug. 22

• A Lopez deputy was called to take a report of graffiti applied to a building. The vandalism was photographed and arrangements were made for its removal.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a trespass complaint. The subject refused to leave and was arrested for trespassing and obstructing a law enforcement officer.

• Orcas and San Juan deputies responded with U.S. Coast Guard and the Dept. of Homeland Security to a suspicious call. It was reported that a black duffel bag was dropped from a low flying aircraft to a waiting boat. After an investigation, it was determined the bag contained ice cream. The ice cream was not shared with the responders.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for driving too fast. The driver was issued a citation for speeding 65 mph in a 45 mph zone.

Aug. 23

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for not having tail lights illuminated during hours of darkness. The driver was arrested for driving under the influence, for reckless endangerment and was issued a citation for failing to illuminate lights when required.

• A deputy received a report of a car window smashed in Eastsound. No suspect information is available or workable leads.

• Deputies received a complaint of domestic violence in Eastsound. No offense had occurred.

• A Lopez deputy was called regarding a flock of sheep that had escaped from their pasture to tour the neighborhood. The owner was notified and reclaimed the wandering flock.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a trespassing call and took a report.

• A Lopez resident was issued a citation for driving 54 mph in a 35 mph zone. Warnings were issued for two other violations.

Aug. 24

• A concerned citizen called about a raccoon running in circles and acting strangely on a Lopez road. The raccoon was gone when the deputy arrived.

• A Lopez deputy observed an illegal burn and contacted the property owner on scene to immediately extinguish the burning pile of yard debris.

• A deputy was dispatched to a theft call in Eastsound. Information was gathered and there are suspects at this time.

• A deputy was contacted about a trespass in the Friday Harbor area. The caller requested trespass warning letters be issued for two properties. The letters were prepared and signed to be served.

Aug. 25

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of vandalism at 740 Coho Drive. A trespass letter was issued.

• A Lopez deputy assisted with traffic control after the air brakes locked up on a trailer and would not release causing the trailer to partially block the road. The problem was resolved after a mechanic arrived and was able to rectify the problem, allowing the trailer to be moved off the roadway.

• A Lopez deputy was notified of sheep running at large. The owner was contacted to retrieve and secure the sheep in their pasture.

• A deputy responded to a request for assistance from rangers in Moran State Park. It was reported a trespasser had entered a closed and locked building and was driving away. Contact was made and the persons involved were identified. State Parks will decide the legal outcome.

• A deputy stopped and ticketed a driver for traveling 42 mph in a 25 mph zone near Lopez Village.

• A San Juan deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for driving 66 mph in a posted 45 mph speed zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.
