On Orcas, all proposed levies were approved for the school district, library and fire department.
Orcas Fire Chief Chad Kimple released the following statement.
“Thank you, Orcas Island. Thank you, voters. Together, we passed Proposition 1, providing long-overdue funds to replace aging apparatus and equipment and make needed repairs to our facilities.
“This victory belongs to our community. You attended town halls, asked thoughtful questions, shared concerns, provided advice, and ultimately made an informed decision about the future of fire and emergency medical services on our island. Your engagement throughout this process made us better.
“Now our work begins. We heard you clearly in the lead-up to the vote: you expect transparency, accountability, and careful stewardship of these resources. We commit to all three.
“Here’s what that means in practice: regular updates on project timelines and expenditures; public reporting at Board of Fire Commissioners meetings; and continued opportunities for community input as we move forward with implementation. Every dollar will be spent wisely, efficiently, and exactly as promised—for apparatus replacement and facility repairs.
“For those who had concerns about this measure, we hear you. This district serves everyone on Orcas Island, regardless of how you voted. We welcome your continued oversight and input as we move forward. Hold us accountable.
“To the 73 volunteers who serve this community as firefighters, EMTs, and support personnel: this vote affirms our community’s commitment to giving you the tools and facilities you need to keep us safe. Thank you for your service. To everyone who participated in this democratic process—whether you voted yes, voted no, or simply took the time to learn about the measure—thank you. This is how community works. The work ahead is significant: replacing aging apparatus, repairing critical facilities, and maintaining the emergency response capabilities that keep our island safe. And we’re grateful for your trust.
“Together we’re moving forward – prepared, equipped, and ready.”
