The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

April 16

• Adult Protective Services forwarded the Sheriff’s Office a case that is currently under investigation.

April 17

• A deputy was contacted about illegal dumping. The person reported finding trash dumped on their property. Investigation continues.

• A deputy on Orcas received a report of threats. The complaint appeared to be civil in nature.

• A deputy on Orcas Island was dispatched for a dog at large report. A report was taken.

• An Orcas Island deputy authored a report to help a citizen document harassment that they were experiencing. The harassment was a civil matter, and the deputy explained how to seek relief through the San Juan County Superior Court.

• An Orcas Island deputy authored a report to help a citizen document suspicious behavior that they were experiencing. The deputy explained that the suspicious behavior was a civil matter at this point in time.

• A citizen turned in some jewelry that they had found at a public restroom on San Juan Island. The identity of the jewelry’s owner is unknown. The deputy took the jewelry and booked it into evidence for safekeeping.

• An Orcas Island deputy, along with Orcas Island Fire & Rescue, responded to a vehicle collision near the Killebrew area. An investigation into the collision revealed that the driver was a new driver who had not yet learned how to operate a manual transmission vehicle. The driver sustained minor injuries.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of disorderly conduct. One person was arrested for harassment and was booked into jail.

April 18

• An incident of harassment was reported to have occurred at the Lopez gas pumps. The involved party was identified. No crime appears to have occurred at this time.

• The reporting deputy was dispatched to a traffic accident in the Friday Harbor area. The deputy arrived and contacted the people involved. One driver was issued an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without insurance. A report was taken.

• An Orcas Island deputy helped a local business owner with trespassing an individual for theft. The business owner will arrange a meeting with this individual at a later time. The incident was documented.

• The King County Sheriff’s Office contacted the San Juan County Sheriff’s Office regarding a serious dog attack perpetrated by a dog residing in this county. The receiving deputy authored a report. The report was forwarded to the animal control authority.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a report of a traffic offense. The vehicle was located, and the driver was issued a criminal citation for reckless driving. Infractions were issued for no driver’s license on their person and no insurance.

• Orcas Island deputies apprehended two fugitives with the help of a local citizen watching their neighborhood for suspicious activity. The fugitives were placed into the custody of the Sheriff’s Office without incident and then transported to Friday Harbor for booking.

April 19

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 42 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone on Lovers Lane. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.

• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 46 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone on Lovers Lane. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed.

• A San Juan deputy stopped a vehicle for expired registration from 2022. The driver was arrested for DUI and was booked into jail. Infractions were issued for expired registration over two months and no insurance.

• Deputies with emergency medical services on board Boat 1 responded to a report of a vessel that called mayday near Cattle Pass. Boat 1 assisted the U.S. Coast Guard in the search for the boat and passengers; vessel debris was found. One person was rescued from the water, and one person was recovered from the water.

April 20

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding, 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding, 55 mph in a 40 mph zone.

• A deputy on Orcas Island conducted a traffic stop. The driver was issued a notice of infraction for speeding, 45 mph in a 25 mph zone.

• A deputy on San Juan Island responded with emergency medical services to a report of a female in a mental health crisis who attempted to take her own life. The female was transported to the hospital for further care. A report was completed.

April 21

• A Friday Harbor male was found deceased in his shop. An investigation into the cause of death is ongoing.

• An Orcas Island deputy stopped a vehicle on Orcas Road. The driver, a visitor to the island, was subsequently issued an infraction for speeding.

• A Lopez resident was reported missing. The person was entered into the appropriate databases. A report was completed.

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of a suspected drug found at a family member’s house. The deputy took custody of the suspected drugs and entered them into evidence for destruction. A report was completed.

April 22

• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of a lost laptop. A report was completed.
