Dog attacks deer on Deer Harbor tidal flats

San Juan County Sheriff's Department reported responding to these calls: June 3: A large, long-haired dog with a copper-colored coat fled the scene on the heels of a vicious early-morning attack upon a female deer on the west side of Orcas Island. The dog reportedly took down the deer on the Deer Harbor tidal flats, and was biting it, and then fled, when an officer arrived at the scene shortly before 9 a.m.

June 4: A San Juan Island teen accused of shoplifting $19 of merchandise from a Friday Harbor grocery faces theft charges. The 15-year-old girl was taken into custody at about 4:30 p.m. after being confronted and then detained by the store manager.
