Deputy Bruce Distler was appointed Undersheriff of San Juan County on Jan. 7. This appointment capped a five-month search and selection process that brought in more than 25 applicants from five states.The Undersheriff is the second in command at the Sheriff’s Office, and is an executivemanagement position.

Bruce Distler is a nearly 20-year law enforcement veteran officer who lives on Orcas Island. He is replacing Jon Zerby, who retired. Distler plans to stay on Orcas and commute to Friday Harbor.
