Deserted drugs, confused canine, abandoned autos | San Juan County Sheriff’s Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Aug. 29

• A Lopez resident reported an unfamiliar dog running in the pasture with their livestock. The dog was gone when the deputy arrived.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a citizen-assist call regarding a civil standby to retrieve property. The standby occurred without incident and an informational report was made.

• A Lopez deputy took a theft report from an island resident.

• An Orcas deputy received a report of an order violation. The suspect was located, arrested and booked into jail in Friday Harbor.

• An Orcas deputy cited a driver for speeding 40 mph in 25 mph zone on Olga Road.

Aug. 30

• An Orcas deputy issued a citation on a vessel moored at the Eastsound county dock, the vessel was previously issued citations for unlawful overnight moorage.

• A deputy responded to a walk-in report of found property. The owner could not be found and the property was submitted to the evidence room.

• In Friday Harbor, a deputy responded to a report of a citizen dispute. The deputy met with the involved parties and determined no crime was committed.

• An Orcas deputy issued a driver a warning for speeding and a citation for an expired registration near Moran State Park.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of an animal problem.

• A deputy responded to a walk-in report of a vehicle prowl in Friday Harbor. The reporting party said there was no suspect description, no evidence and no video of the incident.

• An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a reported fraud near Eastsound. There are no known suspects.

• A deputy responded to a report of a sick animal in Friday Harbor.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a dog-at-large complaint. The dog was located and the owner was issued a warning letter.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a reported theft of a ladder on Roche Harbor Road.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a dog bite near Roche Harbor.

• A Lopez deputy returned a dog to its owner.

Aug. 31

• A Lopez deputy was called to investigate a theft of gasoline from the Southend Store. Deputies are searching for the vehicle and driver.

• A deputy was dispatched to a welfare check in Friday Harbor.

• A deputy met with a citizen regarding a domestic dispute.

• An Orcas deputy investigated the theft of a boat trailer.

• A Lopez deputy responded to a noise complaint off of Hummel Lake Road. The source of the noise was located at a residence, and the homeowner turned down his stereo.

Sept. 1

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a domestic disturbance.

• A Lopez deputy cited a motorist for speeding on Mud Bay Road.

• A Lopez deputy issued a driver a citation for failure to yield to a stop sign at the intersection of Center and Ferry roads.

• An Orcas deputy issued a driver a citation for speeding near Eastsound.

• A motorist was issued a citation for speeding on Fisherman Bay Road on Lopez.

• A deputy stopped a motorist in Lopez Village and issued a driver a ticket for failure to wear a seat belt.

• A deputy issued a driver a ticket for speeding near the Lopez Village.

• An Orcas deputy discovered a vehicle on Deer Harbor Road marked with a 24-hour impound notice. The vehicle was moved in the allotted time and was impounded. A second vehicle was found nearby and also issued a 24-hour impound warning.

• Deputies on Orcas responded to a report of threats. The suspect was arrested for second-degree assault.

Sept. 2

• A Lopez deputy was called about a waterborne disturbance on Fisherman Bay. The involved people traveled via dinghy to a larger boat for the evening.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a reported assault.

• The padlocks securing donation boxes were removed and an unknown amount of money was taken from the public showers in Lopez Village Park.

• San Juan deputies were advised of a burglary.

• A Lopez deputy received a wallet and cell phone found on a roadway.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of harassment. An investigation revealed it was a landlord-tenant issue and the parties were referred to the civil division.

• A small dog was collected from Odlin Park on Lopez where it had been wandering most of the day. The untagged dog was placed into the kennels until its owner can be located.

• A Lopez deputy was advised of a suspicious vehicle parked on private property. The occupants were identified and left.

• A welfare check was conducted in the Friday Harbor area.

Sept. 3

• A deputy responded to a walk-in report of a citizen dispute in Friday Harbor.

• A Friday Harbor deputy responded to a walk-in report of found drugs. The deputy took custody of the drugs, which tested positive for meth, and submitted the drugs into the evidence room.

• An Orcas deputy issued a citation for expired registration and a warning for not having proof of liability insurance to a driver on Mt. Baker Road.

• A driver was cited for speeding 41 mph in a 25 mph zone on Mt. Baker Road.

• A deputy was dispatched to a civil issue in Friday Harbor.

• Lopez deputies responded to a possible burglary at the Richardson fuel dock. The suspects were identified and located.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to an animal problem that involved a dog attacking another dog.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a report of harassment.

• A deputy issued a driver a citation for speeding in Friday Harbor.

• An Orcas deputy stopped a vehicle for an expired registration. The driver was issued a citation.

Sept. 4

• A deputy was dispatched to a domestic incident in Friday Harbor.

• A welfare check was conducted in Friday Harbor.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to a report of a theft.

• Deputies were dispatched to a report of a juvenile problem in Friday Harbor.

• A San Juan deputy was contacted about a citizen assist.
