The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.
Nov. 12
• A Lopez deputy responded to a fraud call. A Lopez citizen gave away thousands of dollars to a caller impersonating Microsoft and their banking institution. The incident was documented.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an abandoned vehicle in Eastsound. The deputy learned that the vehicle was previously tagged as abandoned. The deputy submitted a tow authorization form to San Juan County Public Works to remove the vehicle. The incident was documented.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an accident hit-and-run in the Eastsound area. The reporting party claims this may have been a road rage incident. If you are involved in a road rage situation, do not engage and dial 911 for assistance.
• An Orcas Island deputy assisted Adult Protective Services by investigating a claim that was made with APS. The deputy learned that the allegations were unfounded and that no crime was committed. The incident was documented.
• An Orcas Island deputy was a witness to a citizen assist incident in the Eastsound area. The deputy observed a citizen drive over a speed bump, which may have damaged the citizen’s vehicle. The incident was documented for insurance purposes.
• Deputies in Friday Harbor responded to a report of an animal bite. Two parties were contacted, an animal bite form was completed and an informational report was generated.
• Orcas Island deputies and Orcas Island emergency medical services were dispatched to a report of a single-vehicle collision in Eastsound. The driver sustained minor injuries. The incident was documented and the driver was given a courtesy ride home.
• Orcas Island deputies and Orcas Island EMS responded to a trauma call at an Orcas Island residence, indicating a stabbing. The deputies arrived first and had to force entry. Upon investigation, it was determined that the subject had not been stabbed but had perhaps had a vivid dream.
Nov. 13
• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of fraud. This case was documented in a report.
• A Lopez resident reported the theft of a package from their mailbox.
• Orcas deputies responded to a traffic hazard call — a deer had been struck by a vehicle. There was moderate damage to the vehicle and the deer was able to walk away.
Nov. 14
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding 52 mph in a posted 35 mph speed zone on Olga Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for speed and operating a motor vehicle without insurance.
• A deputy on San Juan responded to a mental health crisis. The male went to the hospital voluntarily, but then left, and returned on his own. While in the lobby, the male went for the deputy’s firearm and hit the deputy. The male was detained and held on a mental health hold – danger to others.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a sick animal incident near the Rosario area. The deputy euthanized an injured deer and the incident was documented.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an accident hit-and-run. The reporting party did not know when and where their vehicle was damaged. The deputy authored a report for the complainant’s insurance company.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to an incident where threats had been made to the victim by text message. The incident was investigated and determined no crime was committed. The deputy authored a report to document the incident.
• A deputy on San Juan Island located a male who had an active warrant for his arrest. The deputy took him into custody. A report was completed.
• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of vandalism. Vehicles in a car lot had signs of attempted forced entry. A report was completed.
• A van was tagged for impound for illegal parking at a Lopez preserve. The owner moved the vehicle before the impound deadline.
• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of a lost foreign passport. A report was completed.
• A deputy on San Juan Island took a report of a missing foreign passport. A report was completed.
• Orcas deputies contacted a local resident who had reported vandalism to their vehicle. A report was taken.
• A theft was reported by a resident on San Juan Island. A deputy contacted the resident and an informational report was generated.
• Orcas deputies responded to a welfare check at a local bar. The subject was contacted and the deputies determined that the subject did not need further assistance. A report was made.
Nov. 15
• A Lopez resident reported suspicious activity at their residence.
• An Orcas Island deputy conducted a traffic stop for a driver who was speeding and driving a vehicle with an expired registration on Orcas Road. The driver was subsequently issued an infraction for failing to renew expired registration greater than two months.
Nov. 16
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a motor vehicle collision on Crow Valley Road. The deputy learned that the driver had hydroplaned the vehicle, resulting in the vehicle driving off the road. The driver was not injured, and the incident was documented.
• An Orcas Island deputy responded to a vehicle hit-and-run incident near the public access to North Beach. The deputy identified the vehicle and driver at fault. The at-fault driver was subsequently arrested for hit-and-run and issued an infraction for operating a vehicle without insurance.
Nov. 17
• Deputies on Orcas Island were dispatched to a domestic disturbance. A male subject was taken into protective custody.
• A deputy on Orcas Island was assigned an Adult Protective Services referral. The incident was investigated. The deputy was unable to determine whether a crime had been committed.
Nov. 18
• A deputy on San Juan Island responded to a report of a hit-and-run accident. The accident was unwitnessed. A report was completed.
