Serial burglar Colton Harris-Moore may have been involved in another Eastsound break-in, but he hasn’t been officially named a suspect, authorities say.

On Feb. 28 at 5:30 a.m., Orcas Island Hardware owner Scott Lancaster received notification that the store’s alarm had been activated. He arrived 15 minutes later, but the suspect had fled.

“Because of the alarm, he skedaddled,” Lancaster said. “There are a Orcas Island Hardware was broken into last fall, allegedly by Harris-Moore. Lancaster installed the alarm after the incident.

“It was a pretty good investment, as it turns out,” he said. “I don’t feel nearly like I did last time. I feel like I won this round. It pisses me off like last time, but this is one more step to him getting caught. He made a mistake this time – if it was him.”

Sheriff Bill Cumming says Harris-Moore is the primary person of interest, but until evidence is processed and can be linked to him, he is not the official suspect.

“Right now he is the primary person of interest because of what we’ve seen at the scene,” Cumming said.

Local police, with the help of Whatcom County, were in Eastsound on foot with canine ground tracking on Feb. 28 A helicopter also circled the island for most of the day.

“We’re out there shaking bushes,” Cumming said.

Harris-Moore is also the primary person of interest in an an airplane theft and break-in at Orcas Homegrown Market and Gourmet Delicatessen on Feb. 11.
