The San Juan County Sheriff’s office responded to the following calls.

Feb. 9

• A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a citizen dispute.

• A Lopez deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle. A large U-Haul truck was parked at the Lopez Hill Preserve trailhead. Nothing was found to be amiss once the people returned, although they mentioned access was a bit challenging in the large truck.

• An Orcas deputy investigated a theft on Markovs Lane; the investigation is ongoing.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped a motorist for driving with a suspended driver’s license. The driver was arrested for driving with a suspended license-second degree and received citations for not having registration in the vehicle and for failing to initially register the vehicle in the state.

• Orcas deputies responded to an assault that occurred at an island clinic. After assaulting a clinic employee and a deputy, the person was arrested and booked in jail for third-degree assault.

• In responding to a report of a runaway juvenile, a San Juan deputy checked with multiple residences in an attempt to locate the person; the incident was documented.

• A deputy on San Juan conducted a civil standby.

Feb. 10

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of possible child abuse. A witness was interviewed and due to the child and suspect living out of the county, child protective services was notified.

• An Orcas deputy took a report about someone moving items inside a residence on Nina Lane. It was determined no crime had been committed.

• A San Juan deputy took a report of a runaway juvenile and placed their name into the Missing Persons Database. The deputy then received information regarding the person’s whereabouts and took them home.

• A deputy stopped a motorist on Fisherman Bay Road on Lopez and issued her a citation for failing to stop at the stop sign.

• San Juan deputies responded to a report of a collision involving a single vehicle and a tree. The driver was transported to the hospital and arrested for driving under the influence. Multiple citations were issued.

Feb. 11

• A deputy on Orcas issued a citation to the owner of a vehicle for abandoning a vehicle at a local towing establishment.

• An Orcas deputy responded to a local clinic about a person who was assaulted; however, the victim refused any law enforcement assistance.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to an agency assist at the public high school.

• A San Juan deputy was dispatched to assist at an adult protective services agency regarding claims of financial abuse. The person was found to be okay and was advised that the claims were baseless.

• A Lopez deputy located a person who was consuming alcohol at a bar in violation of a court order that restricted them from being at bars and/or consuming alcohol and marijuana. The case was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office.

Feb. 12

• An Orcas business experienced two incidents involving a man causing a disruption, alarming customers and employees. The man left the area.

• An Orcas deputy is investigating a report of fraud involving a cell phone plan.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of an alleged assault. Statements from the involved parties revealed there was no probable cause that a crime was committed. A report was completed.

• A Lopez deputy, along with fire and EMS responded to a two-car injury collision on Mud Bay Road at Aleck Bay Road. No one was seriously hurt; however, one driver was ticketed for passing in a no-passing zone; the other for an intermediate license violation.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a citizen dispute on the side of the road. One of the parties was contacted and an informational report was completed.

• A deputy responded to a report of found property in Friday Harbor. The property was collected and returned to a local business with the hope of reuniting with its owner.

• A San Juan deputy was advised of a possible incident of child abuse. An initial investigation was conducted, and the child was housed in a safe location until additional follow-up is completed.

• An Orcas deputy conducted a traffic stop and issued the driver a citation for not having proof of insurance; and warnings for failing to stop at a stop sign and for having an expired registration.

• A deputy stopped a driver on Orcas for traveling 40 mph in a 25 mile per hour zone and issued them a citation for speeding.

Feb. 13

• A Lopez deputy responded to a call about three intruders attempting to break into a house. Upon investigation, there were no unwanted persons on the scene.

• A deputy responded to a hit-and-run near Roche Harbor. No one was injured, but the vehicle appeared to sustain damage. There is no suspect information or workable leads at this time.

• A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for traveling 44 mph in a posted 25 mph speed zone and issued them a citation for speeding.

• An Orcas deputy took an incident report that referenced a civil dispute between a couple over child custody issues. No crime was committed.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a dog-at-large. The dog was returned to its owner who was subsequently issued a citation for first-offense dog-at-large.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a report of two people acting suspiciously, and a juvenile in possession of alcohol and tobacco.

• A San Juan deputy responded to a civil call. Investigation revealed that the incident was a domestic situation. Statements made by the involved parties led the deputy to believe that no crime occurred. The incident was documented.

Feb. 14

• A deputy on Orcas took a report of mail theft. The investigation is ongoing.

• Deputies responded to a welfare check in the Eastsound area.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to and took a report of a citizen’s concern about disconcerting text messages they’d received.

• A deputy in Friday Harbor responded to an area check regarding a report of a homeless person hanging around the caller’s residence. The deputy checked the area and was unable to locate the person.

Feb. 15

• Deputies responded to an assault near Orcas Road. The suspect was arrested and taken to jail.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a trespassing call in Eastsound. A person was given a trespass warning letter for a local business and was informed if they went back they would be arrested for trespassing.

• A deputy on San Juan took a report of credit card fraud. The victim did not want to pursue criminal charges.

• A deputy on San Juan responded to a citizen who was notified a package had been delivered but was nowhere to be found. There are no suspects or workable leads currently. A report was completed.
