Cider and mead festival to benefit Farm to Cafeteria program

Up to ten Washington cider and mead producers including Finnriver, Wescott Bay, Red Barn, River Sky Brewing and Tieton Cider Works will be vying for first place at the First Annual Orcas Island Cider and Mead Festival at Farmer’s Market on Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It is being hosted by Ray’s Pharmacy and proceeds from the tasting and competition event will benefit the Farm to Cafeteria Program.

The event will be held under a large tent near the stage area at Farmers Market and Island musicians will be entertaining the throng during the event.  Anyone over 21 will be allowed to taste the ciders and meads for a modest donation to Farm to Cafeteria.

During the entire weekend of the event, the cider and mead makers will have food pairings and products featured at Allium and Ship Bay. The Lower Tavern will be featuring a producer or two on their wine list, and The Kitchen will be cooking up a lunch on the Friday before using ciders in several of its dishes.
