Charles Eugene Greenwalt of Happy Camp, California has been charged with second degree rape of an Orcas Island teen.

The San Juan County Prosecutor’s Office alleges that on or between June 1 and Sept. 1, 2016 Greenwalt, 48, engaged in sexual intercourse with an underage victim who was incapable of consent by reason of being physically helpless and mentally incapacitated. At the time of the alleged offense, the victim was 14 years old; she is now 15.

Greenwalt does not have a permanent residence and is believed to be staying with relatives in Oregon. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

In July or August 2016, the victim was sleeping on a couch at her father’s house in Eastsound and Greenwalt was sleeping on a mattress next to her. At 3 a.m., she says she woke up to find Greenwalt molesting her. The victim remained still for a few minutes and then removed his hand. She went to the bathroom, where she stayed for several hours. In the morning she reported the incident to her family. Greenwalt is a friend of the victim’s aunt.
