It was touch and go for several weeks, but after determined negotiations between community leaders and Eagle Fireworks, the Eastsound fireworks show was back on for Sunday.

But now many are wondering about the poor quality of the display. Orcas Chamber director Lance Evans says a malfunction with the electrical ignition system caused the show to start about 25 minutes late and finish without a finale.

“They could not figure out the ignition to the finale,” Evans said. “The chamber is pleased that there were fireworks, but we’re sorry that the show was delayed and lacked a finale.”

He says the chamber board will be deciding whether or not to pay the company in full.

“There are people who were undoubtedly disappointed with the quality of this year’s show,” Evans said. “We tried our best to make it happen, and then we were beset with bad luck at the end.”
