CenturyLink says services restored Nov. 11

CenturyLink is working with Orcas Power & Light Cooperative to provide a temporary solution that would restore local voice and 911 services for customers on San Juan Island, Orcas and Lopez. CenturyLink will use OPALCO’s fiber cable and microwave system to connect customers with service while we work to repair the severed cable.

Divers have arrived back on site to begin work on the damaged fiber optic submarine cable.  In the meantime, CenturyTel, also known as CenturyLink, is trying to provision an alternate path via radios to restore communications. CenturyTel anticipates restoring affected services Monday, Nov. 11, as their radio bandwidth becomes available.
