Carolyn Wiley memorial service rescheduled

The memorial service for Carolyn Wiley of Orcas Island has been rescheduled from Saturday, Dec. 20 to Saturday, Jan. 10, at Benson Hall at 1 p.m.

In 1951, Bonneville Power Administration engineers completed the installation of a 7.5-mile, 25,000-volt submarine power cable connecting Anacortes to Decatur Island, which was the world’s longest underwater power line at that time. Approximately 500 spectators gathered along the shoreline, and boats paused their travel to observe the final five miles of high-voltage cable being laid across the bottom of Rosario Strait.
