Budnick to discuss native plants at garden club meeting

The Garden Club is hosting Michael Budnick for a lively discussion of our island’s native plants and their use in landscape design.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 10 a.m. in the Orcas Center Madrona Room.

Budnick, landscape designer and contractor, is a leader in the local native plant movement. In 1985 he created Northwest Concepts, Inc. in Eastsound to design and build native landscapes for new homes and remodel of existing gardens. Through low impact site entry, preservation of existing land features and restoration with native plants, his projects are noted for their harmony and sustainability.

Gardening with native plants on Orcas Island can conserve limited water resources, reduce garden maintenance, attract desired bird populations, thwart voracious deer and produce an aesthetically pleasing landscape. Most this type of gardening can be interesting for gardeners of all levels of experience from the novice to the expert.
