Brown Bag Concerts return

One of the sure signs that summer has arrived on Orcas is the Brown Bag Concerts at Emmanuel Church in Eastsound. The first concert for this season will be on Wednesday, July 1 and will feature Marianne Lewis, organist. Concerts for the following Wednesdays will be presented by Orcatrazz, Martin Lund, the Five Bells Brass Quintet, the Olga Symphony, Cello Quartet, the Bodalo Trio, Sharon Abreu and Basso Dolce and Friends.

Lewis has performed locally both solo and with other artists and groups such as Abreu and the Orcas Choral Society. She has also been featured at Brown Bag concerts in previous years. She is the organist and choir director at Emmanuel Church, is an accomplished harpsichordist and pianist, and has taught piano and organ. She was the co-founder of the Repertory Baroque Ensemble, and has been accompanist for the Oregon Repertory singers and the Portland Symphonic Choir. She has performed with the Portland Baroque Orchestra, Portland Symphonic Girls Choir, Symphonie Concertante, and Bravo Vancouver.

All concerts begin at noon on through August for the free limited seating concerts. Attendees are encouraged to bring a bag lunch to eat on the lawn following the concert. Donations are welcome and all proceeds go to the Emmanuel Music Committee to use to award an annually scholarship to send an Orcas music student to summer music camp. This year’s recipient is Kailley Grantham.
