Baffling boom, ditched driver, chaotic conditions | San Juan County Sheriffs Log

The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Jan. 3

• On Lopez, a deputy was dispatched to a non-injury accident involving a vehicle.

• A person on Orcas was arrested on felony warrants from Whatcom County and California.

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a harassment call.

Jan. 4

• On San Juan, a deputy was contacted for a citizen assist. The person was reporting a family problem, which turned out to be a domestic incident. The suspect was not located, and probable cause was prepared.

• A deputy on Lopez documented a report by a resident who turned over a spent bullet found near their mailbox.

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle on Fisherman Bay Rd. Subsequently, the driver received a citation for not having insurance; additional warnings were given.

• A deputy on Orcas spoke with an individual reporting an order violation.

• A Lopez deputy stopped the driver of a vehicle for multiple traffic violations. The driver was lost trying to find their way back home. The deputy assisted the driver in locating her address.

• San Juan deputies located an individual with multiple out-of-county warrants. When located, the person refused to come out of their trailer and resisted arrest when finally exiting. They were then booked for the warrants as well as for obstructing/resisting arrest.

• A deputy on San Juan Island received a report of a welfare check and determined the person was okay.

Jan. 5

• Lopez deputies responded to a verbal dispute and documented the incident.

• On Orcas, a deputy took a report of harassment. A person reported that another person had gone to their workplace and spread derogatory rumors about them after an altercation over recent contract work. No crimes, however, were identified.

Jan. 6

• A Lopez resident was issued a citation for driving 53 mph in a 35-mph zone on Mud Bay Road.

• A San Juan deputy conducted a traffic stop on a suspected DUI. The driver was arrested and booked into jail.

• On Orcas, a deputy took a report of a loud explosion in the Eastsound area during the nighttime hours. The source of the explosion has not been identified.

Jan. 7

• A Lopez driver was issued a citation for driving 55 in a 35-mph zone on Ferry Road.

Jan. 8

• Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of an impaired driver, whose vehicle had been pulled out of a ditch. Ultimately, the driver was taken into custody for driving under the influence and booked into the San Juan County Jail.

• A deputy on Orcas responded to a citizen dispute.

Jan. 9

• A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a weather-created traffic hazard on MacKaye Harbor Road. Public Works was contacted, and the roadway was cleared.

• On Lopez, a deputy was dispatched to Fisherman Bay for a citizen assist. The Department of Ecology was contacted.

• A deputy on San Juan conducted a welfare check and found the person was okay.
