Artists’ ‘Food for Thought Egg Hunt’ in local businesses

Orcas businesses are offering a sneak preview of some of the original egg-art that island artists have created for the annual Orcas Island Education Foundation Food for Thought Benefit auction.

They will be on display at the following businesses between May 10 and May 18:  Darvill’s, Bucking Doe, Kathryn Taylor Chocolates, Orcas Library, Port of Orcas/Airport, Cherry T’s, Pawki’s, Jillery, Country Corner Wine Cellars, Orcas Arts & Gift Shop, Salon Mir’ Toi, and the Chamber of Commerce Office.

Some of the pieces can also be viewed online at www.oief.org.

This year, however, there’s going to be something a little different:  an “egg hunt.”   There is a complete listing of businesses “hosting” eggs at the Chamber of Commerce.  The list will include the businesses and the title/artist of each egg, but it won’t tell you which egg is where.  It’s up to you to find them.  The first person finding all of the eggs in their correct location and returns the sheet to the Chamber Office will win two tickets to the benefit.

The Food for Thought Benefit will take place on May 19 at the Discovery House at Rosario starting at 6:30 p.m. with a “moveable feast” featuring food items from Ship Bay, Christina, Cafe Olga and winners of the Student Chef Competition.

Silent and live auction items will go home with the lucky winners and all proceeds go towards public school programs.

Tickets for the benefit are on sale at Darvill’s, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Elementary School Office for $65 per person.  Free childcare will be provided at the event; call 376-4376.
