Antiques Evaluation Fair

Do you have heirlooms in your attic? Is there hidden value in items hiding in your basement? How much is your treasure worth?

The Orcas Island Historical Museum is having an antiques “road show” fundraiser at the Orcas Grange on Saturday April 11 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Six certified residential contents appraisers from the Lewis and Clark Chapter of the International Society of Appraisers will evaluate treasures and give an estimate of value.

All the experts are knowledgeable in general antiques and each has a specialty area. Bette Bell is an expert in quilts, Nicole Roberts in French decorative arts, Mike Odell’s specialty is tools, machinery and equipment, Don Jensen is knowledgeable in art glass, Kathleen Victor is an expert in jewelry and Tina Quick will evaluate bears and dolls.

The appraisers will share facts and fiction about evaluating antiques with the audience during the fair.

The cost is $10 per item with a limit of three items per person. Current museum members may bring three items for $25. Bleacher seats to watch the evaluations are $5. Refreshments will be available throughout the day.

Volunteers are needed to help during two-hour shifts from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and they will receive a free bleacher seat and the member rate on evaluations.

To make an appointment with an appraiser or to volunteer contact the Orcas Museum at 376-4849.
