The San Juan County Sheriff’s Office responded to the following calls.

Aug. 23

•A Lopez deputy responded to an accident hit and run call.

•San Juan deputy took a report of a stolen bicycle. A description was obtained and other deputies were notified to be on the lookout for it. There was no information about a suspect at the time.

•A Lopez deputy responded to a theft call. A porta-potty was taken from the property of a Lopez business. The matter is under investigation.

•Orcas deputies were dispatched to an animal attack call. The attacking animal has been quarantined and the victim animal was treated by the local Vet. The owner of the attacking animal was cited under county code for a public nuisance dog.

Aug. 24

•A deputy on Orcas took an incident report about a female screaming obscenities to a person over a civil matter. No crime occurred but documentation was requested.

•An Orcas deputy authored a courtesy report for a non-injury traffic collision that occurred in the parking lot of a local market.

•A deputy was dispatched to a traffic accident in the Friday Harbor area where a vehicle had struck numerous signs and a parked vehicle.

•An Orcas deputy responded to a report that unknown suspects had entered a secure area of a local business and stole items from the secured area.

•A citizen dropped off several items for safekeeping at the Sheriff’s Office in Friday Harbor. The items were entered into evidence for safekeeping.

•A Lopez deputy responded to a report that an individual who found a cell phone in a ditch did not attempt to locate the owner. Instead, they used it for three weeks. When confronted by a deputy, they turned over the lost phone, which was returned to the owner.

•A pair of keys that had been found in the island were dropped off at the Orcas substation. The owner of the keys could not be identified, and the keys were booked into evidence.

•A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding and issued the driver a citation for an expired registration over 2 months. The deputy also issued the driver warnings for speeding, failure to transfer a title to WA State and failure to transfer a driver’s license to WA State.

•Deputies on San Juan were informed about a possible order violation, and took one person into custody for violation of a no contact order.

•Orcas deputies were notified by Compass Health of a pick-up order. The order was carried out and an individual was transported to Peace Medical Center for further care.

•A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of found property and took custody of a bicycle and submitted it into evidence as found property.

•Deputies on San Juan were dispatched to a report of a single car accident and took a person into custody for driving under the influence.

Aug. 25

•A deputy took a report of a concern involving a juvenile.

•An Orcas deputy was dispatched with Orcas Fire & Rescue to a possible accident injury in Eastsound. Responding units learned that a parked and unoccupied motorcycle had been struck by a vehicle pulling out of a parking spot. No one was injured.

•A deputy was dispatched to an unwanted person in the San Juan area. The person was contacted and served a No Trespass Warning Letter for the property. The person was then transported to their residence.

•An Orcas deputy was dispatched to a vandalism call at a local business. A subject was caught on camera removing a piece of property. The investigation is ongoing.

•A deputy on San Juan was dispatched to a report of harassment. The investigation is ongoing.

•Deputies on San Juan were dispatched to a report of a suicidal person. Contact was made and the person they showed no indication they wanted to harm themselves.

•On San Juan, deputies responded to a report of a domestic violence incident. One person was taken into custody for Assault 4th degree – Domestic Violence.

Aug. 26

•A Lopez deputy was notified of hit and run damage to a mailbox. The involved vehicle is a light green Subaru missing the passenger side mirror.

•A backpack was turned into the San Juan County Sheriff’s office as Found Property.

•An Orcas deputy conducted a welfare check on a resident who had not been heard from in over one week. Upon arrival the deputy was able to make entry to the residence and found the person in question deceased. An investigation was conducted and determined there was no evidence of foul play.

•Orcas Deputies were dispatched to a death investigation.

•A Lopez deputy responded to an accident non-injury. An inattentive driver knocked a side mirror off a vehicle in a neighboring lane while offloading on a ferry. Insurance information was exchanged.

Aug. 27

•A deputy on San Juan took a report of a civil issue.

•A deputy on San Juan stopped the driver of a vehicle for speeding. The driver received citations for expired registration and invalid display of tabs and given a warning for speeding.

•Lopez deputies were dispatched to a citizen dispute. One of the parties was subsequently arrested for assault 4th DV and transported to San Juan County Jail. The incident was documented.

•Deputies on San Juan responded to a report of a domestic incident. After talking with the involved parties, it was determined that the incident was verbal in nature, and no crime was reported.

Aug. 28

•An Orcas deputy towed an abandoned vehicle from the public parking lot of Buck Park.

•A deputy on San Juan conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling 43 MPH in a posted 25 MPH speeding zone. The driver was issued a citation for speeding.

Aug. 29

•A deputy on San Juan was dispatched a report of single vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•A Lopez deputy was dispatched to a trespassing call.

•A deputy on San Juan responded to a report of a single vehicle accident. The accident caused property damage and the driver left the scene. The driver was later located and contacted, they admitted to the accident. A report was completed.
